A summary from the great evening we had together on Sept. 21/23:
We will meet weekly from 7-9pm, Thursdays, at The Factory. Some photo shoot field trips, service projects and social gatherings may take place on other days and at other times.
Relationships will be the priority with the art of photography coming second. This includes our relationships with each other (Riverwood's 'L2 Living') and our realization that each of us in PiiiX are at different points on our faith journeys (L1 Living).
The focus, as a general rule, will be to alternate between 'capture' (capturing images) (Week 'A') and 'editing' (of images) (Week 'B'). Amidst this rotation may be photo shoot field trips (i.e. Exchange District, FortWhyte Alive and others), social gatherings and ministry (L3 Living) projects. This approach will include our commitment to learning and improving as photographers in our capture and editing knowledge and technique.
Regarding service projects, while PiiiX seeks to serve Riverwood as a church by capturing images (to the extent that this ministry is needed and wanted by the church staff), it is not realistic for church staff or PiiiX members to expect that the services of PiiiX will eliminate the need for relevant church staff to capture images as and when needed.
The relevant Riverwood staff team member will let Kev know of photography requests that the church has and of upcoming significant service elements and church events. This may include the use of the Google Form 'RCC Staff Photography Request (for PiiiX P.C.)'.
In addition to Riverwood church staff letting Kev know of photography needs, Kev will also use the Planning Center web interface and/or app to proactively review of upcoming service plans. This will be to such items as baptisms, child dedications and more.
Group members will get the most out of PiiiX in proportion to the time and effort that is invested. Members are encouraged to block out Thursday evenings in their schedules to the extent that they are able.
All levels of knowledge, proficiency and experience are welcome. Veterans will support, encourage, guide and mentor novices, and so forth. All levels can learn from - all levels.
The blog site www.PiiiX.Photography will continue to be used. The blog portion of the site is public. The forum portion of the site is for members only and is a safe place where members can share images and feedback with each other.
The 'PiiiX Photography Community' WhatsApp group will continue to be used to communicate information and in order for group members to be able to connect with each other. It is requested that if 1:1, or such conversations, occur or come from the group thread, that members start a new (1:1) conversation.
For the capture and editing components, Lightroom (cataloguing of images, and basic/intermediate editing) and Photoshop (intermediate/advanced editing) will be the two primary applications that we will use for discussion and learning.
The books of Scott Kelby (who is the world's best sellling photography author, an expert on Lightroom and Photoshop and seemingly a follower of Jesus [going by book dedications]) and his online resources (including KelbyOne.com [which includes a monthly membership fee if you want to access it yourself]) will be the primary source of learning content from which Kev will prepare content for meetings.
Group members and guests will be invited to present on such topics as drone photography, film and darkroom photography, astrophotography and more.
